Surroundings of Ostuni - what to see in Apulia


Alberobello: one of the most suggesting and odd Italian town. Walking through the white trulli, in Monti and Asia piccola districts, you will founf out the "Trullo sovrano", 15 meters tall. [50 Km from Ostuni]

Brindisi: Very ancinet city and Roman colony, placed at the end of Via Appia. [Km. 20]

Castro Marina: with the beautiful cave of Zinzulusa. [Km. 120]

Cripta di San Biagio: Byzantine frescoes of the eleventh century. On the way to Brindisi, Contrada Jannuzzo. [Km. 15]

Francavilla: with an important Ducal Palace and Castle. [Km. 20]

Gallipoli: the Castle, the churches of S. Agata and of the "purity", the Hellenic fountain and the Museum and the necropolis of the Messapi people . [Km. 90]

Grottaglie: has a typical neighborhood, near the castle, with the shops of potters and ceramists. [Km. 35 ]

Castellana Grotte: discovered in 1938, are the most significant and complex suggestive caving system in Italy

Lecce: the Basilica of Santa Croce (XVI sec.) with its facade, symbol of Baroque art which makes this city famous. Piazza Duomo: the bell tower, the cathedral, the seminary, the Episcopal Palace. Martina Franca: splendid baroque buildings,ang which: the imposing Palazzo Ducale (1669), the Collegiate St.
Martin (XVIII cent.), The Palace of the Court with the Clock Tower. In August, the Music Festival of symphonic concerts and opera. [30 Km]

Oria: the Swabian castle of Frederick II, the current home of the accounts Martini Carissimo. The cathedral, the Seat, the Carnara tower. First ten days of August: the historical pageant, the Palio, the medieval tournament of the districts. [20 Km]

Ostuni: called the "White Queen of Olives". Worth a visit: the Liberty square, "the spire of St. Oronzo" patron of Ostuni, the Town Hall and the church of S. Francis of Assisi. Do not miss a walk in the old town, dominated by the splendid Romanesque cathedral (1435).

Otranto: cathedral (XI century) with a plant like the one of basilicas with three naves. Inside, the Chapel of Martyrs. The Aragonese Castle (XV century). [100 Km]

Santa Maria di Leuca: in the extreme tip of the peninsula. [130 Km]

San Vito of the Normanni: medieval castle with historical archives.

Selva di Fasano: Zoo Safari and Fantasy. [

Taranto: The old City, the Cathedral of San Cataldo, the Church of San Maggiore, Aragonese castle. The National Museum of marble sculptures and reliefs, vases, pottery, glass, bronzes, ivories and beautiful pieces of jewelry of Magna Graecia. [130 Km]

Valle d'Itria: one of the more beutiful landscapes of Puglia. In total, the existing trulli in this area were established about twenty-five thousand.
